WELCOME to the data monitoring site for NCAT’s Sun4Schools project!

Sun4Schools, funded by the Montana Universal System Benefits Charge, resulted in the installation of 2-kW photovoltaic (PV) systems at 12 schools within the Montana Power Company service territory.  The project has been designed to demonstrate the benefits of solar energy while providing a unique educational opportunity for students and their communities.

Much of the educational benefit of the project comes from an instrumentation and data collection package installed at each site. Seven schools received extensive monitoring systems which collect both PV system power output and solar energy input along with wind speed; outside air temperature; and the school’s total electrical consumption and demand. Five schools received more limited monitoring systems, which collect PV system power output, and the building’s total electrical consumption and demand.

Data is collected on-site by the monitoring systems, transferred to a computer server via telephone line, and displayed here on the Internet for viewing.
